Customize client defaults and custom fields

Set reusable defaults and capture the client information that matters to your business.

Written by Geoff Mina

Client defaults reduce repetitive setup, while custom fields let Moxie capture relationship information specific to your business.

Set defaults for new clients and contacts

  1. Set the default hourly rate, billing increment, late-payment fee, payment terms, card-fee behavior, portal access, and time-entry billability.

  2. Save your changes.

New clients inherit these settings whether created from the client list, an invoice, an agreement, onboarding, or an opportunity. You can adjust the values for an individual client. Existing records remain unchanged unless you deliberately use Update all clients and confirm which values should be overwritten.

Defaults make future client setup faster without silently rewriting existing relationships.

Create custom fields

  1. Select Add field.

  2. Name the field, choose the appropriate type, and review its required Field ID. Moxie derives a PascalCase ID from the name while you create the field.

  3. Use the preview to confirm how the field will appear.

  4. Save the field.

The Moxie custom-field editor for a new client field

The editor previews how a custom field will appear when someone edits a client.

After the first save, the Field ID is locked. You can unlock it when necessary, but changing it abandons database values stored under the old ID and can affect tokens, imports, filters, workflows, or integrations that use it.

Use custom information

Populated client fields appear under Additional details in the client workspace. Custom fields can also participate in supported lists, filters, tokens, imports, and automations. Create contact-specific fields under the Contacts record type instead of placing person-level information on the client.
