Create and configure a project

Set up a project with the right client, schedule, team, pricing, and portal access.

Written by Geoff Mina

Create a project when a client engagement needs its own plan, timeline, team, pricing, or portal experience. You can begin with a blank project, use a reusable template, or ask Moxie Assistant to prepare a structured first draft.

Choose how to begin

  1. Open Work → Projects and select New project.

  2. Select Start from a template when an existing template already contains the right tasks, relative dates, fees, or portal defaults.

  3. Select Build with Moxie Assistant when you can describe the outcome, phases, timing, and deliverables in plain language.

  4. Otherwise, enter a project name and continue with the blank project form.

The creation page separates project identity, scheduling, pricing, and portal choices so each decision has a clear purpose.

Build a first draft with Assistant

Describe the engagement with as much useful detail as you have, then select Review project plan. Assistant proposes a project structure and tasks, but it does not finalize the project without your review. Confirm the client, owners, dates, pricing, and every generated task in the normal project editor.

Assistant helps with the first draft; the normal project workspace remains the source of truth.

Complete the project setup

  • Client connects the project to the relationship and makes it available from the client workspace.

  • Project type determines task statuses and any custom project or task fields.

  • Start and due dates describe the overall engagement. They do not replace individual task dates.

  • Owners identify the team members responsible for the project.

  • Calendar highlight helps distinguish project work in calendar surfaces.

  • Fee schedule defines whether the project is hourly, fixed-price, retainer-based, or otherwise priced.

  • Client portal controls whether the client can see the project and its time information.

What happens next

After the project is created, Moxie opens its workspace. Add or import tasks, write private notes, connect related records, and update the project configuration whenever the engagement changes.
