Customize invoice templates

Create branded invoice layouts with reusable blocks, styles, and a reliable default template.

Written by Geoff Mina

Invoice templates control the layout, branding, and reusable content applied when you create a new invoice. Build the default once, then create additional templates when different services or clients need a distinct presentation.

Understand template behavior

  • The default template is selected automatically for new invoices.

  • An invoice receives its own copy of the chosen template.

  • Editing a template affects invoices created from it later; it does not rewrite invoices already created or sent.

Build the document

  1. Open Settings → Templates → Invoices.

  2. Create a template or open an existing one.

  3. Use the plus controls between sections to insert blocks.

  4. Drag blocks to reorder them and use the contextual controls to duplicate or remove them.

  5. Select a block to edit it in the settings panel.

  6. Use the Style tab to change document-level presentation.

  7. Save the template and enable Default when it should be the starting point for new invoices.

The builder uses representative invoice data so you can judge hierarchy, spacing, totals, and branding before using the template.

Use brand information consistently

Keep your workspace business details, logo, and brand colors current. Templates can then present a recognizable client-facing document while preserving a clean, readable background for invoice content.

Test before relying on a template

Create a draft invoice with the template, add representative line items, and open the client preview. Check long descriptions, multiple tax and discount rows, payment instructions, and the total area—not only the sample's first screen.
