Let anyone sign an agreement from a public link

Share an agreement template as a public link, QR code, or website embed so new clients fill in, pay for, and sign their own copy, with an optional pipeline opportunity.

Written by Geoff Mina

Give an agreement template a public link when you want new clients to sign up on their own. Anyone with the link fills in your form, pays, and signs their own copy of the agreement; Moxie creates their client record, the signed agreement, and anything the agreement sets up, such as projects and invoices.

Before you begin

A public link works only when the template can run without you. The builder lists anything still missing under the public link setting:

  • An embedded form that identifies the visitor. Add a form block that asks for First name, Last name, and Email as required fields. Don't hide those fields with conditions.

  • Your signature, if the template has a signature line for you. Sign the template from Signers so every copy starts with your signature in place. If the template has no signature line for your side, you don't need to sign.

  • To take payment: use the current Payment block, turn on project and invoice creation, turn off invoice review in the agreement settings, and connect Stripe. Public agreements take card payments only.

Turn on the public link

  1. Open the template from Settings → Templates → Agreements and select Settings in the panel beside the document.

  2. Under Public link, turn on Anyone with the link can sign.

  3. Review the Link name. It starts as the template name; type your own, such as website-package, to change the end of the link. The full link appears below the field. Each link name can be used by only one template in your workspace; if another template already uses it, Moxie tells you when it saves so you can choose a different one.

  4. Optionally, choose a stage in Add submission to pipeline to create an opportunity for every signed copy.

Anything that still blocks the link appears as a warning above the Link name.

Share the link

Select Share in the template toolbar. Copy the Public link, download its QR code, or copy the Embed snippet to place the agreement on your website. The embedded agreement shows at a fixed height and scrolls inside itself. Share stays unavailable until the public link setup is complete.

The same link powers the QR code and the website embed.

What visitors do

  1. The visitor opens the link and sees the agreement as you built it, including slide formatting if it's turned on.

  2. They fill in your form. Their signature stays unavailable until they've entered their first and last name in the form.

  3. They choose a package when the agreement offers one, enter their card when payment is due, and sign.

  4. They select Finish. When the agreement has no signature or accept block, selecting Finish is all it takes to execute it.

What happens next

  • The client record. When the visitor's email matches an existing contact, the agreement belongs to that client. Otherwise Moxie creates a new prospect from the form answers.

  • The agreement. The signed copy appears in Agreements like any other client agreement. Its prices are the workspace defaults the visitor saw, even when they match an existing client with different rates.

  • Projects, invoices, and payment. Anything the agreement is set to create is created when it's signed, and the card payment is applied to the first invoice.

  • The opportunity. With a pipeline stage chosen, Moxie creates an opportunity in that stage for the new copy and links the agreement and everything it creates to it. The opportunity's value is the agreed one-time total before tax. When the agreement only bills on a schedule, the value is the recurring amount per period, such as a monthly retainer.

Editing the template changes what future visitors see. Copies that were already signed stay as they were. A visitor who has the page open while you save a change is asked to reload before they can finish.

Troubleshooting

  • Share is unavailable. Open Settings → Public link in the template and resolve each warning listed there.

  • The switch can't be turned on. The template has a signature line for you that isn't signed yet. Sign it from Signers, then turn the link on.

  • "The link name … is already taken." Another agreement template uses that link name. Choose a different one, or clear the field to use the template name.

  • The visitor can't sign. They need to enter their first and last name in the form first.

  • Stop new signups. Turn off Anyone with the link can sign. The link stops working, and agreements already signed are unaffected.
